The U.S. Department of State will no longer add visa pages into U.S. passports beginning January 1, 2016. Previously, U.S. passport holders had the option to pay for the insertion of additional 24-page visa inserts when valid passports lacked adequate space for entry or exit visa stamps. The decision to discontinue this service was made to enhance the security of the passport and to abide by international passport standards.

The U.S. Department of State is celebrating Passport Awareness Month during September by launching an “Apply Early” campaign for U.S. citizens thinking about renewing their current passports or applying for the first time.
The U.S. Department of State mailed letters on June 9 to a limited number of U.S. passport customers whose personal information may have been compromised. The letter provides specific details regarding the breach of personal information, how to contact us for further assistance, and guidance on how to protect yourself from identity theft.
On Saturday, May 16, the Department is hosting a Passport Acceptance Day at the Washington Passport Agency from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This event will offer appointments (call 1-877-487-2778) and walk-in services for applicants using Form DS-11 (all first-time applicants, all minors, and applicants who are not eligible to use Form DS-82). Passport processing time is four to six weeks. Expedited processing, will call service, and same-day passport issuance will not be available.
Due to inclement weather, the following passport agencies are closed to the public today, Thursday, March 5, 2015: The Washington Passport Agency, the Special Issuance Agency (Washington, D.C.), the Arkansas Passport Center (Hot Springs, AR), the Dallas Passport Agency, and the Philadelphia Passport Agency.
