The Houston Passport Agency in the Leland Federal Building in downtown Houston officially reopens to the public on Monday, February 10, 2014. The agency has been closed to the general public since September 23, 2013 due to renovations to the Leland Federal Building. The Houston Passport Agency offers expedited passport service to applicants traveling within 14 days by appointment only. Appointments are available Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m-2:30 p.m. excluding federal holidays. The U.S. Department of State, San Juan Passport Agency, will open to the public on Monday, January 13, 2014. The Agency is located at Centro Gubernamental Minillas on Avenida Jose de Diego, Parada 22.

Beginning April 1, 2011, the U.S. Department of State will require the full names of the applicant’s parent(s) to be listed on all certified birth certificates to be considered as primary evidence of U.S. citizenship for all passport applicants, regardless of age. Certified birth certificates missing this information will not be acceptable as evidence of citizenship. This will not affect applications already in-process that have been submitted or accepted before the effective date.
